Gangubai Kathiawadi is an upcoming Indian autobiographical crime film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, written by Atkarshini Washitha and produced by Bhansali and Jainti Lal Gada under their banners Bhansali Productions and Qalam India Limited. The film stars Alia Bhatt in the title role, and is based on a chapter in Mumbai's Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens about Madam Gangubai Kothiwali from a room in Kamipura. Principal Photography started on December 27, 2019 in Mumbai. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on September 11, 2020 Gangubai Kathiawadi .
